Your Guide to Versace Bags in 2022
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of wearing a Versace bag. The ornate, gold logo pairs beautifully with each and every one of their products — and the designs pop like no other. Finding one of these bags is like finding a diamond hidden among the rocks. A key component of every bag enthusiasts collection, the Versace bag is the perfect accessory for 2022.

Before you click off of this page and dive into listings for your dream bag, hold on! Like every established designer brand, there’s a lot you need to know before making a purchase. Each bag has a history and personality — and a lot of the bags out there are fake.

To help you make the best use of your cash, we’ll be guiding you through what you need to know about Versace bags. From the history of the brand, to determining whether your luxury product is real or not, to finding which style fits your vibe — we’re spilling all the tea.

The Versace Brand

Named after the founder, the Gianni Versace brand was brought into existence in 1978. With his unique style and drive to maintain control of his brand, he quickly elevated his brand into the limelight. Gianni was called the “Rock N’ Roll designer” after the work he did for well known artists like Michael Jackson, and the items he made for European princesses. Tragically, Gianni Versace was murdered in 1997, but his brand would live on through his family’s work.

Versace bags are known for their variety of designs, which range from sleek black leather to weaving patterns. Medusa’s head, adorned with Greek keys, adds an air of sophistication to many of their purses. This design is so famous, it almost overshadows the brand’s iconic “V”. Almost.

In 2019 Versace was part of a huge designer merge that turned the fashion industry on its head. Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo joined forces with Versace to create Capri Holdings limited. They’ve continued to make top quality items and gorgeous bags ever since.

Real or Fake?

Versace bags come in all shapes and sizes, so it can be tough to find a surefire way to tell if yours is real. However, there are a few little tips and tricks you can use to help you catch a counterfeit.

Check the Code!

Pretty much every authentic Versace bag will have a way to trace it back to the manufacturer. Look for a tag with an NFC serial number, a QR code, or a CLG code (not all bags have a CLG). If you don’t find one, that’s a bad sign, but if you do, there’s still no guarantee. For the QR code and the NFC, you can download an app that will trace your product and determine if it’s the real deal. For the CLG code, you’ll have to go to the Versace website to verify your luxury bag.

A Quality Logo for a Quality Bag

The famous Medusa head logo adds bling to any Versace bag. It’s always made with top quality materials — etched metal only! While many counterfeiters are good at duplicating the look of the logo, if the head is made of plastic, the looks don’t matter.

Fakers also often make the mistake of giving Medusa snakes for hair. The Versace logo actually depicts Medusa before she was cursed by the gods, with a normal head of hair. So if there are any serpents on your bag, the seller was actually the snake!

Quality Materials are a Must!

When it comes to the stitching of Versace bags, every loop is sewn with care. A real bag will feel sturdy, with seams sewn shut tightly. On fakes, the stitching will come apart if pulled at, and the bag will feel flimsier in general.

Like with the logo, there should be absolutely no plastic on your Versace bag! Zippers, adornments, and other parts that could be made of metal, will be — simple as that! Fake bags of every type will have lesser quality materials than the original. Other than looking for a scannable code, your intuition and good sense should help you parse out whether the bag on offer is real.

Stylish and Certified

Other than the certification and scannable codes, the production stickers can be an indicator of authenticity. Found inside the bag, these two stickers declare where the bag was sold, and where the bag was made. When buying from a reseller, the sale sticker may be a country other than your own, so don’t immediately throw in the towel if that’s the case.

However, if the production sticker shows a country other than Italy — the bag is no good. All Versace products are made in their motherland of Italy; they aren’t exported ever.

Like the certificate, the sticker shouldn’t have any quality defects. Smudged or crooked writing is the mark of a fake.

Which Bag Fits You?

Versace’s lineup of top quality bags makes picking one hard. You could get more than one, but we know not everyone has that kind of cash sitting around. Between their purses, totes, backpacks, and fabulous carriers there’s a bag for every look under the sun. If you’re having trouble deciding which of these bags is the most you — that’s what we’re here for!

Purses, purses, purses!

While there are a variety of styles that have been produced over the years, the classic Versace purse is a black and gold over the shoulder item. Either adorned with the Medusa head logo and/or the brand name, these purses stand out most when your outfit matches the color scheme. Wearing black, gold, or whatever color your purse happens to be, brings out the glossy finish of the bag. Matching also accentuates the logo, which of course you want people to see.

Other than the black and gold, Versace purses tend to come in one of two styles: Solid color, or elaborate design. Versace’s single, solid color purses are more flexible than they seem. They pair well with both a matching color outfit, or complimentary colors. They’re not as versatile as the classic black, but can be worn with a variety of outfits. Patterned purses are a little more difficult to wear properly. You either have to style them with a near matching pattern, or go full neutrals so you don’t clash. These bags offer a unique challenge to stylists, but for those who have the guts they can be a truly unique accessory.

Some Totes Amazing Bags

The tote for a luxury enthusiast workhorse, Versace goes above and beyond with their tote bag design. Their nylon and leather bag exudes the same grandeur as their purses — with an extra layer of sturdiness for enhanced practicality. You’ll still stand out from the crowd of course, but in a different way than before.

In terms of bag shape, there aren’t a lot of different types floating around — Versace tends to stick to a single style. The tote has two straps, goes over the shoulder, and is fairly large. They have, however, made a variety of colors and patterns over the years. Like the purse, the classic colors are black/white and gold, and can be paired with similar colors. The most common pattern uses the Greek keys that surround Medusa’s head in the logo as a design, with the second most common being a party style golden floral motif. These tote bags are bulkier by design than purses, so if you’re going for a slim, femme look this may not work with your vibe. It does however, work with sleek business attire, or a looser style outfit.

The Backpack is Back!

It may be the rarest of the bunch, but it isn’t the worst by any means. Versace’s backpacks tend to go simple, showcasing the brand name front and center. They’re a stylish traveler’s companion, as their nylon/leather shell gives them the same sturdiness afforded to the totes.Designs vary from bag to bag, but the majority of Versace backpacks are black with either a white design, or the Medusa head logo. Both pair with a simpler style of outfit, being more practical than sleek.
